AZUMI manga figurine
I absolutely love this particular ‘trading figure’ from the FiguAx‘s 2006 AZUMI line. On the heels of the successful live action film, these faithfully represented the design evolution of Yu Koyama’s tragic sword girl over the course of the successful manga series. … Continued
Konoe’s Jubei
Found at the superb photo-blog DRILLPOP. Great VHS clamshell art from the 1963 flick Yagyu Bugeicho: Kengo Midare Gumo (aka Yagyu Chronicles 7: The Cloud of Disorder). This prolific B&W ninja series starring Jushiro Konoe is just great, track these down… My … Continued
Ninja Blowing Gun???
Don’t know if this is old stock, a warehouse find, or new print runs, but Ninja-Weapons.com has all sorts of old 80’s ninja posters for sale, and CHEAP! I got these two CLASSICS for Christmas, 1983 I think… I still … Continued
Lions, pythons and ninja… OH MY!
LOST this auction on eBay years ago… still bitter! A great 80’s poster for a British touring circus, centered on some sort of ninja show. Maybe some trapeeze folk and acrobats in black pajamas with swords in their belts, or … Continued
Chiaki made a great ninja girl!
Go-Go Yubari aside, who can resist Japan’s sexiest schnoz and such great costuming (from Azumi 2.) It’s the bangs that really make the whole package work, IMO. Found at the photo-intensive Chiyaki shrine.
Not the show on G4…
…but a Hong Kong cheapie for sure, and you know this painting made a VHS clamshell back in the day. Aahhh, the pistol crossbow. Sooo 80’s. Seen even as late as The Last Samurai… Found at Undead Film Critic

Yep, it’s official – I LOVE the hooded Kagemaru and hate the unhooded drawings. Say, while you’re here, check out the newly updated Kagemaru vinyl figure post over in Toys and Statues!
KAGEMARU manga covers
Mitsuteru Yokoyama is probably the second most prolific creator of crossover ninja properties next to Shirato Sanpei. Both Kagemaru of Iga and Masked Ninja Akakage expanded from their pulp roots to multiple incarnations in anime and live action film/television. I’m … Continued
Osamu Tezuka’s ninja
It’s ComiCon week here in SoCal, so I’ll be posting a lot of manga and comics stuff over the next few days. We’ll start things with the king – the emperor? – the ultimate genius? Hmm, I just don’t have … Continued
ZOKU SHINOBI NO MONO press stills (part 2)
The Shinobi no Mono films not only revolutionized the way ninjutsu was portrayed in film, they changed the very notion of ninja characters. Raizo Ichikawa was the perfect victim protagonist – the lone man struggling to survive in a world that … Continued
